After the HH ring meeting, some of you came forward regarding my leather cover order from America.

Now I would like to explain to every interested party what he is getting into.

I ordered the beige, real leather covers without any special stitching.
Cost me $ 400 stuff, $ 85 shipping and about 60 francs.
I waited about 10 days for the goods.

After the parcel finally arrived, I mounted all the seats and took them to a saddler. After my request, which would cost the coating, I had to sit down first. Between 900-1000 francs. He would need about a day. And then there would be the problem with the seat heaters. These are sewn in the leather and not removable.

Nixda, I'll do it myself.

Back in my little workshop, I started disassembling.

Here we go!

And here are the seats before the conversion

I start with the backseat to gain experience for the seats. So I can avoid any mistakes in the seats.
Yes / Yes. It turned out that exactly the seats of the back seat is the hardest of all!

Every .. really every fucking corner and every corner is attached with metal clips. These must laboriously be severed with the side cutter (Swiss term icon_razz.gif) and pooled by hand from the upholstery.

The rest
And it is striking that this is not quite the yellow of the egg. It lacks the hole of the locking knob.

So now to the seats

Igit igit .. what has accumulated all those years?

Incidentally, this gray / blue on the seat cushion is not a mold! It has to be like this.

Now the processing
Here is the seat heating, which one supposedly does not get out of the old leather.

Then you would have to borrow from your wife / girlfriend / sister or what I know- the sewing machine.
Sews always on the outside edge.
Just like here to supplement one, of several missing wire guide.

The assembly

After much thought and testing I came to the conclusion that I will not use these supplied metal clips.
For the following reasons:

  1. You get shit on the nip
  2. Without a special pliers you get the not properly clamped.
  3. A small side effect - the braces are shit hard!

(Maybe not one alone, but you need a lot of them!)

That's why I opted for cable ties. They are light, you can pre-assemble them and you can adjust them specifically in length and thus under tension.

And here again errors came to light, which one did not see before.

The result & my resume

For the purchase price, I am quite satisfied.
Of course it's a lot of work and you need patience!
And yes, it's a fumble.
In addition, there are not original covers and wrinkles form because the seat cushion is no longer the Neuform. I like this even.
Nevertheless, the leather is nice, strong and also comfortable to sit on.

My advice:

Choose the method with the cable ties. It greatly facilitates your work and fumbling.
Then take your time. Not like me, who disassembles and rebuilds the cart shortly before the burning of the flames and assembles it until 2 o'clock in the morning, only to start driving later! : Rolleyes:
Incidentally, I have the upholstery of the passenger seat installed in the driver's seat. The comfort has improved immensely by the, not so worn upholstery!

Just one:
I will disassemble the passenger seat again and then sew the bag to it from the original seat. The covers are copies of the original US spec. These have no pocket behind the passenger seat like my EU Spec. (see right picture)

I hope I could show one or the other, with what kind of work he gets involved in a purchase!
