For a long time, Toyota had been overcast since the last presentation of the FT-1 four years ago, and so the most creative rumors have been circulating ever since. Recently, even the return of the "legendary" Toyota 2000GT was predicted by a large car magazine. But with the return of a legend Toyota meant a very different model. The Toyota Supra.

Weeks earlier, Toyota announced the presentation of a concept vehicle at the Geneva Motor Show, which is to initiate the return of a legend. Suggested with a huge rear spoiler as you know it from racing cars and the typical roof of the FT-1 was already clear to many - It must be a racing version of the Toyota Supra from the team Gazoo Racing.

Another concept vehicle?

We still have to be patient, because ultimately some technical and legal guidelines for a series-ready vehicle have to be tested and implemented.

Furthermore, Toyota has with the cooperation with BMW an agreed release timeline. The BMW Z4, based on the same basis, will be the first model to be presented to the world in the middle of this year, followed by the Toyota Supra at the end of the year. Toyota must therefore be content with the presentation with the second starting position. But as the saying goes, "The star is the last to enter the room"

Very close to production

Even if one speaks of a concept vehicle in the presentation of the GR Supras, the Toyota Supra is much closer to production than it is known to the public.

At the end of November 2017, the road version of the Toyota Supra was presented to some dealers at an internal Toyota convention in Copenhagen. We had reported in an article with exclusive information and pictures from the conference.

In the nationally and internationally separated presentation not only the beginning of sales dated at the beginning of 2019, but also the performance of 340PS were to be read.

The latter should be the model sold under the Toyota brand. Not very clear, but not to be ruled out, is a premium model from the team Gazoo Racing with more power.

With the GR Supra Racing Concept vehicle, Toyota has officially given us a taste for the new Supra, which is, to everyone's surprise, consistently positive.

How do you like the new GR Supra?
