For many owners of classic cars, classic cars or convertibles, it is in the autumn to prepare the car for hibernation. Here, however, it is not enough to remove the key and close the garage door. Thus, some important maintenance and care work should be carried out so that the vehicle is ready again in the next spring to make the streets in old freshness unsafe.

Check paint and underbody for dirt and damage

If you moth your car for several months, you should first clean the outer skin of the vehicle and check for damage. Because both small paint scratches and soiling such as tar, bird droppings or honeydew can extend in the course of winter to greater damage and attack the paint and the underlying sheet. To protect the paint, it can also be treated with a hard wax polish.

Also in the area of the subfloor, small damages have to be repaired immediately, as otherwise corrosion and rusting can occur quickly. The same applies to hoods and rubber gaskets, as it is absolutely necessary to prevent the ingress of moisture into the interior of the vehicle.

Clean interior and dry

Who does not know this: A vehicle that has not been used for a while suddenly smells musty and stale inside. The cause is moisture that could not dry in cracks, corners and under floor mats. Therefore, before mothbushing your car, the interior should be thoroughly cleaned and checked for dampness and water penetration. All loose floor mats and floorings also best winter in a dry place outside the vehicle.

The storage room of the car should always be well air conditioned. The ADAC recommends an ambient temperature of about 15 degrees Celsius and a relative humidity of about 40 percent. To keep the car constantly ventilated, keep the windows open a crack.

Relieve tire

If it is possible to jack up the car, this can relieve the tires. In any case, the air pressure of the tires should be increased (to at least 3 bar). In addition, to prevent deformation of the tires, it is advisable to move the vehicle a little once a month.

Before the start of the new season is then to check whether the tires still have the statutory minimum tread depth (1.6 mm). If the profiles have traveled too far, new tires must be produced. ,

Fit in the spring

If regular inspections such as the HU or an inspection fall into the winter time, it is advisable to prefer these dates. On the one hand, the specialist takes care of various care and maintenance work for you. On the other hand, it ensures that your car is in perfect shape for the next season and that spring does not begin with maintenance appointments and shortage reports.
